Hello again

I haven't touched this journal in a very long time. But my daughter is now old enough to be active on social media, and the best way to keep track of her is to friend her everywhere she goes on the internet. Which means that pretty much everywhere I go, my kid can read my posts. Except here, which is far too old-school and boring for her.
Also, my kid is now active in fandom. Worst of all, she ships Ryan Ross/Brendon Urie (I think I raised her wrong).
So I might start posting here again, especially if any of my friends are still around. I also re-watched POTC and am very much in the mood to be in that fandom again.
Also, I am archiving all my fics on AO3. If anyone has any tips or tricks (either on the archiving process, or on ways to interact with people there) I would love to hear it.

Date: 2016-05-30 08:53 pm (UTC)So I'm now the Mayor of Ghost Town, most days. There's a lot of interesting people still using LJ, though. Mostly writers, whether original work or fandom. So it's always worth checking in here. As for me, I mostly post historical tidbits on gross or gory subjects, or reviews of books I've read or movies or plays I've seen, plus reflections on my grim life. Not much has changed in 6+ years as far as my blogging style is concerned.
That's great that your daughter is in fandom! Well, uncomfortable for you, but great for her. You're never too young to have an OTP, is what I say.
But I'm afraid I have no idea how to get to know people on the Archive or use it efficiently. I just sort of throw the occasional fic at it and ignore it the rest of the time.
I missed you! It's good to see you again!

Date: 2016-05-31 09:26 pm (UTC)I have been using the archive to read fic, but I haven't been writing, and part of that is the lack of interaction. In going through my journal to put things on the archive, I was really impressed with the amount of stuff I wrote due to prompts, riffing off of other people's journal musing, etc etc--having a community was inspiring. Without that community, I turned into a consumer of fandom, taking without putting anything back, and that's not who I want to be.
On the other hand, I am remembering part of why I strayed from LJ- I have gotten notices from a ton of accounts with the same email I use to log into LJ that a bunch of hacking attempts have taken place in the few days since I went on. I think their server is not very secure.
I agree with the ability to put it down and come back- with fb or twitter, if it wasn't posted today, it doesn't feel relevant anymore. That's great for memes that you read in 30 seconds, but it doesn't encourage meaningful discussion. I went to a Buffy con last month, and it was such a great feeling- a room full of nerds with actual thought-out opinions on Xander's slut-shaming language, and whether the relationship between Buffy and her mom was truly healthy, and so on. And I realized that I have been missing the meta, and the interchange of ideas, and ended up back here.
Any good active writing comms you would recommend?
